WELCOME TO THE PORT OF SUMMERSIDE

The City of Summerside is situated in Prince County located on the western part of the Province of Prince Edward Island. It is the largest community on the province's West Coast and is located in close proximity to the Summerside Airport, as well as the Charlottetown Airport and the Trans Canada Highway.

The Port of Summerside offers a significant contribution to the economy of Prince Edward Island. Prince Edward Island is the only island province in Canada, and marine activities are one of the major forms of transportation. The public wharf mainly exists to bring supplies to the island and to export agricultural goods, the majority of which are potatoes, to international markets.

Since the opening of the Confederation Bridge, significant volumes of potatoes for export have been shipped from the Island by truck. However, recently the Port has seen an increase in the volume of potatoes being exported by vessel. In addition to the export of potatoes, the port is used for the import of aggregates and fertilizers. Other vessels including fishing vessels, Coast Guard and recreational users frequently call at the Port of Summerside.
